The EWG (Environment Working Group) has released their Dirty Dozen™ and Clean Fifteen™ produce for 2016. This is an extremely resourceful list of the most pesticide-laden produce to the least pesticide-laden produce. Needless to say, you should always buy organically grown strawberries/berries and all the other foods on the Dirty Dozen™ .list There is also the clean 15, which lists the top 15 produce that you don’t have to purchase organically.
Strawberries happen to be one of my favorite fruits. So I was extremely disappointed to learn that it is still riddled with some of the worst pesticides that have been linked to cancer, reproductive & developmental damage, hormonal disruption and neurological damage. Imagine the strawberries/berries that you consume being treated with nerve gas, which has been banned by the Geneva Convention. Horrible and frightening, isn’t it? Click here to learn more about some of the horrific pesticide combinations that are found in strawberries.
For several years, I’ve been buying organic berries along with other produce, and will continue to do so, especially with this new data. You should too.
Below you’ll find a handy list you can cut out and keep in your wallet for use when you go grocery shopping.
