In This Episode

It’s  breast cancer awareness month, and I invite you to heighten your own awareness and that of your friends and family. It takes a village and if each one help one that’s a whole lot of help for a whole lot of women. Be your sister’s keeper. Remind your girlfriends, your mothers, your daughters and your aunts to practice prevention techniques including, annual mammograms. We want prevention, but if that fails, early detection is key.

Sure fire ways to be proactive in the fight against breast cancer

 Decrease alcohol consumption.

 Avoid smoking.

Practice doing breast self examinations and get your annual mammogram screening.

Adopt coping mechanisms like deep breathing, praying, mediation and yoga to help diminish stresses in your life.

Incorporate exercise and or movement into your lifestyle routine.

When in the sun for prolonged periods, protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays by using SPF.

Know your family’s breast cancer history. Does breast cancer run in your family? Immediate or extended.

Reduce stress. Studies have shown that women who are excessively stressed are twice as likely to develop cancer. (Myth? Maybe not!)

Manage your weight. Consume lots of fruits and vegetables such as, cauliflower, bok choy, broccoli and avoid foods that are high in saturated fats.  Also avoid processed and artificial foods if possible. Eat organically whenever possible.

Avoid Hormone Replacement Therapy. Studies have shown that women who take HRT are at a higher risk of developing breast cancer.

Do more of what makes you happy.
