Fall the fabulous is here and that means time for a skincare regimen checkup. What worked in the summer may not be ideal for this time of year. Though the temperature is beautiful and comfortable, the cool, dry air can leave your skin craving some extra tender love and care.
So if necessary, switch up your skincare routine and incorporate ingredients that will nourish, heal, and restore your skin cells inside and out.
Here are seven tips for fabulous fall skin.
Drink Water
Hydrate your skin from the inside out. The skin loses moisture daily and it’s important to replace it by drinking as much water as possible. The recommended amount is minimum 8 glasses. Though internal organs usually benefit from water consumption before it reaches the skin, water will rid the body of toxins that can show up on the skin if not flushed out. Most people who drink lots of water will tell you that their skin has a healthier glow.
Eat Well
The right foods will do right by your body. Eat healthy and balanced meals. Balanced meals include healthy fats, proteins, and carbohydrates, which will nourish your cells and provide them with the energy needed to work optimally. Consume foods that support skin health like antioxidants, found in berries (strawberries, cherries, blueberries, raspberries ); Omegas found in fish and seafood and ceramides found in brown rice.
Move
Exercise is everything. And it can be done in a myriad of ways. Walk, run, jump, HITT, Yoga, Zumba, Taichi, Qigong, etc. Incorporate movement of some kind into your day. Increased oxygen to your cells along with the glucose obtained from the balanced meals you eat will work wonders on for your skin.
Sleep
It’s not overrated. Sleep well. While you are sleeping your body gets massive amounts of work done. That includes cell repair and tissue rejuvenation. Studies have shown that lack of sleep worsens existing skin conditions and accelerates aging. Aim for 6 to 8 hours of sleep per night. Your skin will thank you.
Cleanse
Healthy skin requires attention inside and out. Clear away excess grit, dirt and old cells by washing with a cleanser that’s appropriate for your skin type. Sebum (the skin’s natural oil) helps prevent bacteria from breaching the skin. However, when there is not enough sebum on the outer layer of the skin, dirt, dead cells and debris can enter the inner layer of skin and cause inflammation, which shows up as acne.
Moisturize
Moisture matters. It is one of the very important ways of hydrating the skin. Skin can get dull, dry, itchy, and gritty during the cold months, but you can offset that by moisturizing daily. If you suffer from dry skin, you can moisturize up to twice per day to combat drying. Studies have shown that dry skin wrinkle at a much higher and faster rate than other skin types.
Exfoliate
Exfoliate several times per week to fluff away excess oil, dirt, dead skin cells, unclog pores, even out, tone and brighten dull skin. Bottom line is, exfoliating regularly will leave your skin looking and feeling amazing.
